8th Annual Merciful Harvest
Nov 17, 2018
Whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.”
I want to begin by thanking God for the blessings He has bestowed on St. Theresa
Parish. I then want to thank St. Theresa Parish for the outpouring of time, talent, and
treasure that made this year’s Merciful Harvest a success. God touched your hearts and
you were moved to action! We are truly blessed to have the opportunity to be His hands
of mercy and compassion to those less fortunate than us.
This year’s Merciful Harvest served 317 families comprising 1473 family
members. The families were able to choose a winter coat for each family member,
clothing items for the children, as well as hats, scarves and gloves. The parish also
provided each family with dental supplies, laundry detergent, and bags of food and
produce. The families were very grateful.
I would like to acknowledge our coordinators who worked behind the scenes for
months to make this a success. Loan Jella, Christine Wilson, Viki Hughes, Debbie
Bozik, Annie Baba, Barb Hochstein, Sue Ciavarro, Elena Boshier, Carina
Rodriguez, Bea Craig, Marianne Mazzatenta, Wendy Doherty, Dianne Mabery,
Amy Delaney, Andrea Loza, Rob McNamee and Giardy Ritz.
Thanks go to Ann & Bill McLaine and Stephanie Konold for obtaining
donations from Harris Teeter, Giant, Target, Walmart and Costco.
Thanks also go to the Knitting & Crochet Club of
Riverview, St. John’s Prayer Shawl Ministry and Susan Burns for the many handknit
hats; to Carol Logue for the handmade religious bracelets: to Leesburg Dental and Virginia Dental Solutions for donating dental supplies; to the St. Theresa School families who donated laundry soap; to the members of our Knights of Columbus council for their help in setting up,
cleaning up, and preparing and serving the wonderful breakfast, some of which was
donated by Anita’s Mexican Restaurant; and to the Legion of Mary for the gentle and
loving way in which they promoted the faith to our guests. And, of course, many thanks
go to the over 250 volunteers who worked Friday evening and Saturday to make
Merciful Harvest a reality.
A special thank you goes to Marianne Guidos who leads Divine Mercy
Outreach at St. Theresa’s, to Loan Jella who provides administrative support for
Merciful Harvest, and to Bill Soltesz of Guaranty Storage for his ongoing support of
Divine Mercy Outreach. Without the use of his storage units, we would not be able to do
the work that we do!
And finally, none of this could happen without the year-round support of Fr.
Guest. It all starts at the top and he sets the example for all of us in living out the
If I have missed anyone, I am truly sorry. We are deeply appreciative of all who
