Welcome Fr. Alex Solsma

Hello. I am Father Alex Solsma, the new parochial vicar at Saint Theresa. Thank you for welcoming me to the parish.

I was ordained by Bishop Burbidge on June 6. I attended Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary in Philadelphia and also participated in the Institute for Priestly Formation program at Creighton University in Omaha.

I was born and raised in Sioux City, Iowa. I am a 2011 graduate of the University of Iowa, majoring in Political Science, Journalism and Mass Communications. I still love to watch the Hawkeyes, especially when they play in our area at Maryland, Rutgers, and Penn State.

Prior to entering seminary, I worked as a news and sports broadcaster at radio stations in Iowa and Wisconsin. In 2018, I moved to Virginia to become the director of communications at the Basilica of Saint Mary in Alexandria.

My parents currently live in Arkansas since my father works for Tyson Foods, which is headquartered in Springdale. I have a younger brother and sister; both live in Texas with their families.

Some of my interests include spending time with family and friends, running, reading, watching sports (college football and basketball are my favorite), history, writing, and traveling.

I look forward to serving this parish community and meeting you.
