Marriage
“The sacrament of Matrimony signifies the union of Christ and the Church. It gives spouses the grace to love each other with the love with which Christ has loved his Church, the grace of the sacrament thus perfects the human love of the spouses, strengthens their indissoluble unity, and sanctifies them on the way to eternal life.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church 1601).

In order to get married at St. Theresa Parish, you need to be a current member registered for at least 3 months and have a visible presence within the parish, before you submit your marriage preparation form. Adult children who no longer live in the parish should seek marriage in the current parish where they are residing. If you are planning to have a wedding outside of our parish, you cannot have marriage preparation here unless you’ve been registered for at least 3 months and are a current parishioner. A church is not merely a building for ceremonies; rather, a church is a faith community committed to our Savior Jesus Christ.

Marriage Preparation at Saint Theresa Catholic Church
Read and review the Saint Theresa Wedding Guide and Policy Manual. The process will begin once you fill out the online form on the Overview tab above. The pastor will assign your file to a priest or deacon in the parish and he will contact you to begin the process.
Your desired wedding date will not be scheduled at the Church until after the first meeting with the priest preparing you. The priest or deacon will give you verbal confirmation that he will proceed with marriage preparation and that the desired date and time is acceptable.
Once the priest has contacted you and set a date for the first meeting:
1. Obtain newly issued baptismal records for both the bride and the groom. Contact the parish at which you were baptized and ask them to send you new certificates. Copies or originals will not be accepted as the certificates have to be issued within six months.
2. Download the Marriage Affidavit form from the ‘Forms’ tab. Two affidavits will be required for both the bride and the groom. The affidavits are to be sent directly to the parish office by mail from the witnesses after they have been notarized by a notary public or clergy member.
3. Schedule NFP classes. These classes are required as part of the marriage preparation process and the priest will need a certificate of completion. Acceptable programs can be found here: Diocese of Arlington Office of Family Life / Download the NFP brochure here
4. Schedule a Pre-Cana conference. A certificate of completion will be required as part of the marriage preparation process. Acceptable conferences can be found here: Diocese of Arlington – Marriage Preparation
